I've been reminiscing about Christmas growing up in Switzerland. Here are just a few of the things that remind me of home...
-Going to the Christmas Martkets in Alsace, France with my mom and ending up at our friend's crêperie in Mulhouse to eat the best crêpes in the world!
-The smell of roasted chestnuts down town Geneva.
-The annual display of "santons" - French traditional hand-painted nativity figurines. The entire village (the baker, the butcher, etc) comes to see baby Jesus. Each year, my mom would get me one "santon puce" (a flee-sized figurine) for my collection.
-Grocery shopping for the Christmas meal down town with my mom, bright and early (right when the stores opened) on Dec.24th.
-Smoked salmon
-Cardon au gratin: my favorite vegetable - can't find it in the States.
-Bûche de Noël (Christmas log)
