So What's With the Title?

Well, no one would argue with me that Cheyenne, WY. is a dry place.  My skin testifies to that at least 10 months out of the year (even though I haven't lived here that long, I have lived through the summer, which is the only time I didn't depend on lotion for my survival).  It is not uncommon in Cheyenne for men to "moisturize" too!  My husband has not given in to that yet.  According to him, if you start using lotion, you become dependent on it (he has the same theory with Carmex).  Aside from the dry skin, I actually enjoy the dryness.  You can go for a hike or a bike ride and work up a sweat without even knowing it!  What I do miss, however, is water - not so much moisture in the air, as a large body of water.  Not that I had that in Sioux Falls either, but I grew up on Lake Geneva, and spent half of my vacations on the Mediterranean, by the ocean.  In Cheyenne, I can ride my bike over to "Lion's park" and walk around a mini-lake, but that doesn't quite quench my thirst!  So, although I am content living in Cheyenne, and very thankful for the mountains nearby, it is a wilderness of sorts.

As you might have imagined, there is also a more figurative meaning to the title.  Perhaps my post on worship will shed some light on that, and on the choice of the scripture.  This longing for a physical body of water translates into a spiritual thirst for God - my soul cannot live without him, as my body cannot live without water.  Yet, even though I know that my body needs water, I often forget to drink.  If I begin to feel weak or light-headed, Jake sometimes asks me if I've drunk any water lately.  But aren't we like that with our spiritual water?  We often don't realize how thirsty we are until we start drinking - until we come before God and allow him to fill our cup.  He is the Fountain of Life.

  1. Andy says the exact same thing about lotion and Carmex! Refuses to use either...he'd rather complain instead. And claims he just needs to drink more water. :-)
